OUR STORY

Cocoon + Canvas was born from a deep passion for supporting children and adolescents on their journeys toward overall well-being.

At Cocoon + Canvas, we believe in the power of transformation. Just as a caterpillar enters a cocoon to undergo a metamorphosis, children and adolescents are given a safe space to reflect, grow, and ultimately emerge as more resilient and self-aware individuals.

The cocoon symbolises a nurturing environment where change can take place, a sanctuary for exploring emotions, thoughts, and experiences. The canvas, on the other hand, represents the limitless potential for creative expression, where young people can paint their stories, express their challenges, and discover new ways of understanding themselves. Together, these symbols represent the journey of healing, growth, and empowerment that we offer through art and play therapy.

Meet The Therapist

CYNTHIA NGArt Psychotherapist and Play Therapy Practitioner

cynthia@cocoonandcanvas.com

As a credentialed Art Psychotherapist and Play Therapy practitioner, I offer a unique and flexible therapeutic child-centered approach that combines the best of both evidence-based modalities, all within a trauma-informed framework.

Both art therapy and play therapy are proven to support children and adolescents in overcoming emotional, behavioural, and developmental challenges. While art therapy provides a creative and expressive space for children to explore their emotions, play therapy fosters healing through imaginative and interactive play. By integrating these two effective methods, I tailor each session to the individual’s needs, ensuring they receive the support they require in a way that resonates with them.

I work primarily with children as young as 4 years old through to adolescence, providing age-appropriate interventions that grow with the child. In my practice, art and play naturally complement each other, allowing the therapeutic process to evolve fluidly within the session. I provide a diverse range of tools that help children and adolescents process feelings, build emotional resilience, acquire a strong sense of self, and navigate life’s challenges in a safe, supportive, and trauma-informed environment.

As a registered member of ANZACATA, the peak professional association for Creative Arts Therapies in Australia, New Zealand and Asia, I am committed to upholding the highest standards of professional practice, ensuring that the care I provide is ethical, effective, and evidence-based. This dedication includes continuous professional development and adherence to the latest advancements in the field, enabling me to offer the most current and impactful therapeutic approaches for the individuals and families I support.

Our Services

Expressing what words can't...

Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses the process of creating art to enhance a client’s physical, emotional, and social well-being.

It offers a powerful, non-verbal way for children and adolescents to express themselves and work through difficult emotions. For young individuals who may struggle to put their feelings into words, the creative process provides a safe outlet for self-expression, empowers them to navigate challenges and make meaning of what they might be struggling with.

Toys are children’s words and play is their language.

Play Therapy recognises that play is the natural language of children. In a safe and nurturing environment, children are free to express themselves, work through challenges, and explore their inner world through play.

Play therapy is typically designed for children aged 3 to 12 years old. It can be adapted for adolescents, but the primary focus is on helping children in this age range express themselves and work through emotional or behavioural challenges through play.

Creating synergy, inspiring meaningful connections.

Our Art Experiential workshops offer a creative space for individuals to connect with others and foster personal growth through hands-on artistic activities.

We specialise in designing customised workshops tailored to specific needs. Through the shared experience of art, individuals form deeper connections, strengthen bonds, and flourish in a supportive environment.

Creating artwork allows your mind to be in a safe place while it contemplates the tougher issues you are dealing with. One can use the tools of brush, paint, pastels, crayons etc to expose and even for a short time colour those issues in a different light.
